Nicolson Street Post Office fight begins
Tomorrow, Tuesday 19th, the Post Office announces the post offices it plans to close in Edinburgh and the justification. The post office at 79 Nicolson Street is one of the 12 on the list for closure. However there is a 6 week public consultation period and it is believed that decision to include the Nicolson Street post office on the list was marginal.
It is owned and run by Mr Mohammad Iqbal alongside the Southside Pharmacy. The premises have a higher usage than many others which are being retained and it is situated in an easily accessible position close to many other shops and facilities.
A public meeting has been arranged for Thursday 11th September at 7pm in the Southside Community Centre with representatives from the Post Office to be present.
Leaflets will be delivered and Mr Iqbal is launching a campaign to gather support and save the post office for local use. More details will follow over the next few days.
