Craigmillar Park hotel application passed

In March this year the Planning Committee rejected the application to return the villa site at the junction of Lady Road and Craigmillar Park to hotel use. That decision was by a vote of 9 to 4. Today the revised proposals were approved unanimously. There were concerns about the amount of parking for guests, traffic access and egress arrangements and aspects of the design of the rear extension. However, the desire to retain the villas in this conservation area, along with a concern to prevent further deterioration of this eyesore, won the day. There were also concerns about the effect of this hotel on other such premises in the area and smaller guest houses which are currently being squeezed. Alas, competition is not a planning reason for turning down an application.
