Top award for Potter creator

Harry Potter creator JK Rowling has been awarded the Edinburgh Award in recognition of her services to the city, following Ian Rankin's win last year, at a reception at the Prestonfield Hotel.

It is said that Rowling penned chapters for her first Harry Potter novel The Philosopher's Stone in a cafe on Nicolson Street, although it should perhaps be noted that many of the city's cafes have claimed she frequented them at one time.
