Only one post office saved in Lothians

Nicolson Street post office is to close. The Post Office will today announce that all bar one of the Post Offices earmarked for closure will be closed. The Nicolson Street post office will close - though it is likely that the pharmacy will remain. The details of the Post Office response to the consultation will be posted here (though at the time of writing the file has not been posted - scroll down to the Edinburgh section at the foot of the page). Earlier posts about the campaign to save Nicolson Street post office can be found here and here. The closure of the Warrender Park post office has also been confirmed.
Update: The provisional information on which this newsblog entry was based was not entirely accurate. There are two post offices in Edinburgh to be retained - at Elm Row and Calder Crossway. However, the Oxgangs Broadway has now been earmarked for closure and a period of consultation has now commenced. More details here.
