A passage to India

I haven't had time to look into the precise details of a visit by the Lord and Lady Provost to India (proposed for approval at the Council's Policy and Strategy Committee this week).   But when the Evening News phoned up looking to do a story on the item I refused to be drawn into criticism of it on two grounds.  First, I did not know the details and was not in a position to make a judgement on the specific trip.   But secondly it sounded to me that there was no appreciation of the potential value to the city of an international trip.   For example, this city has a large number of foreign students and I have met many from India.  Contact at a civic leadership level has other potential benefits for the city.   Perhaps the amount may need review.  But the text of the article hardly justifies the headline used by the newspaper.
