Man arrested. Housebreakings fall

There has been much talk about what the economic downturn will do to crime.

Local police are reporting a fall of 26% in the number of housebreakings in Southside & Newington Ward for the period from April 2008 to January 2009. The actual number is 66 compared with 89 in same period in the previous year. A 41-year-old man who has been charged with 58 alleged housebreakings in the Prestonfield and Grange areas (not necessarily in the same period). More details here.
