Final month for Commonwealth Pool

The Royal Commonwealth Pool is scheduled to close its doors to the public at 7:00pm on Sunday 28 June 2009. Edinburgh Leisure will decommission the facility and building contractors John Graham (Dromore) Ltd will start on site on 3 August 2009. The closure is to allow Edinburgh Council to refurbish the venue. Works are scheduled to take up to 2 years with the facility reopening to the public around summer 2011. Built for the 1970 Commonwealth Games, the building was listed in 1996. The cost of the refurbishment is £37m.
