Pleasance area: woman fights off robber

A 40 year-old-woman fought off a handbag thief on Saturday in East Adam Street just off the Pleasance.

The police account, here, implies heroic resistance by the woman who was knocked to the ground and kicked and punched by the suspect who apparently also presented a knife.  Witnesses intervened and the suspect made off towards Nicolson Street empty handed.

Police have issued a description of a man they wish to trace:
"Male, white, between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 7ins tall, skinny build and pale complexion with gaunt features and unkempt appearance.

He was wearing a baseball cap possibly white in colour with dark writing on it and a pale blue or light coloured jumper with dark coloured horizontal stripes on the body and sleeves."
I urge anyone with information which might lead to the culprit's conviction to contact the police as soon as possible (0131 311 3131 or you can spill the beans anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111).

The incident took place about 5:45pm on Saturday (25th Feb) and was followed a few minutes later by another serious incident when a woman was robbed at knife point in Forrest Road.
