Bike registration scheme

Police and bike retailers met in a 'bike theft summit' last week agreeing on automatic registration of all new bikes sold.  The intention is to aid the identification of owners when a stolen bike is recovered by the police.

This is often particularly difficult where losers are often relatively transient residents.  Southside and Newington is home to a large student population who are necessarily move accommodation at frequent intervals.

The police press release with further details is here.  I wonder if The Bike Station was included in the registration scheme.  They sell a significant number of refurbished bikes locally.

This blog reported on recent police successes in detecting bike theives in a post earlier this week.
