Olympic legacy and a cycling network

One of the advantages of the blog is that I can make information available to all who wish to click their way here.

Over the last two or three weeks I have had emails from a number of people urging me to support the motion at the council meeting today to create a 'Sir Chris Hoy' cycle network

The decision today was an agreement in principle that such a project is a  good idea and the matter was remitted to the Transport Committee to examine the feasibility, having regard to the challenges.

Certainly this is a good time to develop better facilities and encourage cycling.  But for my part, with due regard to the considerable challenges, I think we need to be bolder and seek sponsorship and corporate support as has been done with the Boris Bikes network in London.

An extension of Edinburgh's network would be different from London but there are likely to be some big companies who would like to be associated.  Virgin and RBoS are just a couple which come to mind.
