Prestonfield bus gate live on Monday

Bus lane cameras will become operational from Monday 3 December 2012 at the Prestonfield bus gate.

To avoid any potential adverse publicity leading up to Christmas the two week period of warnings only will be extended until after the holidays, that is Monday 14 January 2013.
The Transport (Scotland) Act 2001 gives local authorities the powers to enforce bus lanes using cameras. The Jewel and Prestonfield bus gates were converted to bus lanes so that the Council could use the legislation to better enforce them. The Council considers taxis as 'an important component of the public transport system, particularly for local access to long-distance public transport trips, and for use by people with disabilities' and therefore permit taxis to use bus lanes throughout the city.  Previously taxis were not allowed to use bus gates, now that the bus gates have now been converted to bus lanes taxis are now permitted to use the them.
