Pound Savers and World Heritage

A ceremony to celebrate a joint project to enhance an 1899-built Nicolson Street property takes place this evening.

Pound Savers at 31-41 Nicolson Street is just within the Edinburgh World Heritage site and today marks the completion of work to restore and improve the fabric of the building.

The following have been involved in working together to restore and upgrade the historic building which was an early, purpose-built department store.
  • Edinburgh World Heritage
  • Naseer Ahmed and his brothers, the Owners
  • Steven Newsom, Conservation Architect
  • Jim Bishop, the Quantity Surveyor
  • David Narro, Structural Engineers
  • Capital Stone, Main Contractor (lead mason, Stephen Gravestock)
  • Hutton & Read Ltd, Shopfront improvements
The work was done with the help of a grant from Edinburgh World Heritage and a lot of persistence from the owners.

More details are in my post on this blog two years ago entitled 'Brattishing in Nicolson Street' .  And in this 2009 report from an earlier stage in the project.

I will try and get a photo for tomorrow.
