Suspension of city saunas

Yesterday, following well publicised police action, the Regulatory Committee of the Council took a decision to suspend the licenses of six 'saunas'.  I understand one of these is in Argyle Place - the New Gentle Touch.

Now it should be said that their are court proceedings pending in relation to some issues at some of the saunas.  And the proprietors of the saunas concerned have 28 days in which to appeal against yesterday's decision of the Regulatory Committee.

There has been much discussion of whether this constitutes a departure from the rather laid back policy towards saunas in Edinburgh in recent years.  On the other hand, perhaps the raids were just the various authorities doing what should have been done anyway to supervise the licences granted.

Details in the Evening News here and here.
