School catchment areas

From time to time I get questions about changing the catchment areas (for many different reasons).  There for I thought it might be of interest to share a recent response from the Education Department on the catchment situation in the Sciennes area.

The catchment area between Sciennes Primary School and Preston Street Primary School was changed in 2001 to alleviate pressure on Sciennes Primary School which at that time was struggling to accommodate its catchment population.  At this time Upper Gray Street was realigned with Preston Street Primary School.  Today, due to the rising birth rate that is being experienced across the city, Sciennes Primary School is again under pressure from its own catchment population.  Accordingly, there are no plans at present to increase or alter either Sciennes or Preston Street’s current catchment arrangement.  Any further proposal to change a catchment boundary would be subject to a full statutory public consultation in accordance with the schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010.
