LiFi - the future

Faraday Building
Using light  waves instead of radio waves to transmit information is the aim of the new LiFi research unit just opened at Edinburgh University.  The intention of the Centre is to develop it as the successor to 4G and Wi-Fi.   See here for the Universty press release.

The concept of Li-Fi was acclaimed as one of the top 50 inventions by Time magazine in 2011.  There is also more information here.

The research is being led by Professor Harald Haas at the School of Engineering at the King's Buildings.
