Quiet summer for crime.. . but

Apart from some welcome raids by police targeting drug dealers in the Southside and an ongoing problem with housebreakings, it appears to have been a relatively quiet  summer for crime in the Southside/Newington area.

But it has not gone away.

1.  There was a serious assault in Gibbs Entry just beside the Nicolson Street Tesco on 21st August.  I understand that in connection with the incident two 21 year old males have been arrested along with a female of similar age.

2.  Then around 5:15am on Tuesday morning this week there was a serious assault in Middle Meadow Walk.  From the police media release:
A group of 5 men and women were walking on Middle Meadow Walk from Forest Road, when one of the group was approached from behind by an unknown man who assaulted him.

The 19-year-old victim sustained serious facial injuries and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The suspect is described as white, 25-30 years old, with a medium to stocky build and bald shaved head.

He was wearing a light tweed-style jacket with dark chino trousers.

He was last seen making off towards Melville Drive.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.
Anyone recognise the description of the suspect?
