Brilliant book by local author

An addition to the books worth readinglist (right side of page and scroll down) McCrae's Battalion by Jack Alexander is added today. It documents the early years of Hearts Football Club and their key role in recruitment at the beginnning of the First World War. Much more than that it documents the life and labours of the 16th Royal Scots and their inspiration Sir George McCrae whose funeral in 1928 in Roxburgh Place remains the largest ever seen in Scotland. Local readers particularly will recognise the locations and streets of many of those who appear in its pages. The author lives in the Southside & Newington ward.
