Garden waste figures

I have obtained the following figures about the new chargeable garden waste service (which starts on 8th October).

The current service is estimated to cost £2.26m to run.  The Council is assuming 46% of those entitled to sign up will do so.  The cost of the first year of running the new service is said to be £2.38m and increase of just over 5%.  Certainly some of those entitled to a garden waste collection currently do not make use of it.  But it looks like the collections just became more expensive.

Perhaps that will not be a bad thing if the service is actually fortnightly (it is currently every three weeks).  However, the current service is none too efficient.  My last two garden waste collections simply did not happen!

The charge does not meet the cost of the service.  The estimated revenue from the £25 charge in the first year is £1.41m.

By the way, you can find the terms and conditions for the new service here.
